The Annual Airport Safety Awards is the highest form of recognition presented to the safety award winners with exceptional safety contribution.

Ground Support Equipment Enhancement
By SATS Limited (Winning Team)
To prevent Ground Support Equipment (GSE) from accidentally contacting the aircraft fuselage due to human or operational error, a dedicated team from SATS limited innovated by incorporating sensors at specific location of the equipment, restricting further vertical and forward movement when the equipment is of close proximity to the aircraft fuselage. Sensors are mounted on the GSE's bumpers and in the event where the GSEs' railings are not retracted, the engine automatically shuts off to stop any further movement. The operator would also be alerted via an audio alarm when the GSE moves toward the aircraft.
This innovation has truly brought about a reduction in the number of incidents and airside safety! Congratulations to the team!
Baggage Disinfection Service

Partnering with the disinfect group and Ecas4 Australia, a dedicated team from dnata has successfully launched a safe, efficient and environment-friendly baggage disinfection service at Changi Airport. The disinfecting equipment creates an almost invisible mist that is 100% natural, non-toxic, bio-degradable and can effectively kill over 99,99% of bacteria and pathogens (e.g. Coronavirus) on all types of baggage. The solution is safe for handling and approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia as a Hospital-grade Disinfectant. The disinfection service is made available for passengers coming to Singapore as destination.
Mobile-Elevated Work Platform

In SIA Engineering Company, a team was formed to create a Mobile Elevating Work Platform VR simulator to enhance operators' proficiency in performing equipment positioning. The simulator is used for honing operators' skills by allowing them to practise in different simulated scenarios in a risk-free environment. The team developed aviation-centric situations and hazardous operating conditions at both the hangar and the airside to inject realism. Through harnessing on technology, Yazid, Cathay, Thiam Heng, and Andrade's aspiration to enhance operators' competency through the creation of a simulator was truly commendable. Their innovation and system thinking for safety demonstrated a positive disposition towards cultivating and sustaining a strong safety culture!
